Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway
From Railways
The Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway was formed in 1853 and authorised by an act of 21st July 1856. It was an end-on extension of the Inverness and Nairn Railway from Nairn to meet the GNSR at Elgin. It was completed in March 1858.
Through communication between Inverness and Aberdeen (and hence Edinburgh and England) was still not possible as the GNSR were unable to complete their line from Keith to Elgin. Eventually the IAJR completed in on behalf of the GNSR.
The IAJR took over operation of the Inverness and Nairn in 1857 and eventually absorbed it on 17th May 1861.
In April of the following year it absorbed the Findhorn Railway, and in February 1865 merged with the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway to form the Highland Railway. This article is a Stub. you can help UK Railways by expanding it.
